We Walk by Faith, Not by Sight

The woman Valerie spoke of last week in her topic had powerful faith - something that I believe grows each and every day.  I was told that Christians have "blind faith," - as we have not seen nor heard.  I respectfully disagree, as we all know miracles do touch us - just as our Heavenly Father is waiting for us to merely ask and He will touch, heal, protect and always love.  Faith is a strong barrier against anything Satan can toss our way.  It has been said that "We can't trust the God we don't know personally."  I am happy to say that I do know Him personally and He is my best friend.

The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. Hebrews 11:1

Mary had faith.  When the angel gave her the news that she, a virgin, would bear a son, the Son of God, she said, “Let it be done unto me according to your word.”  Mary believed God knew what was best for her even when what he asked did not make sense to her in the human
way of thinking.

Rahab the harlot also had faith.  She welcomed spies into her home and helped them because she had witnessed and acknowledged the proof that God was on their side.  Both saints and sinners exhibit faith – even in today’s world.

Faith is taking God at His Word.  Everyone has faith in something.  You believe that most cars will stop for pedestrians.  You trust that the ground won’t drop.  You believe that the Sun won’t fall out of the sky and destroy the Earth.  Faith always has an object.  It is the dependability of who or what you have faith in that determines the outcome.  As Christians, our faith says, “Whatever happens, I know God loves me and will be with me.  I trust Him.  I surrender my life to Him without question or reservation.”

Faith in our Heavenly Father and the Lord Jesus Christ is a very powerful weapon against Satan.  The more you give your life to Christ, the more your faith will be tested.  Keep in mind that Satan is always planting land mines ahead of you.  You don’t know where they are
because they are invisible to the human eye…they can even appear in someone you are very close to.  The way to avoid these land mines is to walk closely with God and let Him guide your steps.  That takes faith.  “Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same
sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.”  1 Peter 5:8-9

We can receive faith from listening to and reading God’s Word, and believing that it is true because you find proofs for your faith.  Nurtured faith grows through the testing of trials and the hassles of day to day life.  Faith finds vitality from listening to others share their
stories – whether it be your pastor or your friends here in Christ in Pogo.  Faith grows in many ways – when you find the power to forgive those who have wronged you – when you witness a miracle.  Your faith will invigorate you when you reach out to people in need.

I join Valerie in asking you to share experiences with us where your faith in God was all you had left and how God responded to your need.

Heavenly Father, increase my faith.  I want to believe, to be assured
with all my heart, that You can take care of any situation that faces
me.
