Laying to Rest our Troubles

   In this fast paced society we live in with high speed internet service, 10 items or less checkouts at the grocery, fast food, 10 minute oil changes and so on. There are two words we
know nothing about…rest and wait.
   We are too busy to rest and have too many things to accomplish during the day in order to wait.
   As we get caught up in this busy way of living each day it becomes a struggle and can cause bitterness, resentment, and worry. All of these feelings can hinder our prayers and fellowship
with God.
   Let’s look at how God wants us to live….
He wants us to enter His ‘rest’ where He can turn every obstacle into a stepping stone to success.

Psalm 37:7…Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself…

‘Rest in the Lord’

   Stop trying to figure things out, stop searching for answers yourself. Be still and know that He is God. Hold your peace, quiet down, listen to Him in silence so that you may hear Him speak. Let the Lord fight your battles, He has everything under control.

Psalm 55:22 Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

Psalm 91:1-2 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most high shall abide under the shadow of the almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in Him will I trust.

Psalm 61:4 I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever. I will trust in the covert of thy wings.

Hebrew 4:9-11 There remaineth there fore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from His. Let us labor therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

1 Peter 5:7 Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you.

Exodus 33:14 And he said, my presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.

Matthew 11:30 Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.

‘Wait Patiently for Him’

   Lean yourself upon God. Wait in silence, don’t quarrel with Him or complain. Have hope and great expectation that God will intervene and give us the answers we seek. The wait is Gods way of discipline of our spirit, in bringing out the graces of gentleness, patience and forgiveness, it leads us to examine ourselves.

Psalm 62:5 My soul, wait thou only upon God: for my expectation is from Him.

‘Fret Not’

   Fretting, worrying or getting angry over a matter causes us to take things in our own hands, we react in the flesh, and do more harm than good.

Psalm 37:9 If we obey God and….

‘Rest in the Lord’

‘Wait Patiently for Him’

‘Fret Not Thyself’

we will ‘inherit the earth’…reap God’s richest blessings.

Jesus, I am resting, resting
In the joy of what thou art.

Jesus, I am resting, resting
In the joy of what thou art;
I am finding out the greatness
Of thy loving heart.
Thou hast bid me gaze upon thee,
As thy beauty fills my soul,
For by thy transforming power,
Thou hast made me whole.

Jesus, I am resting, resting
In the joy of what thou art;
I am finding out the greatness
Of thy loving heart.

O how great thy lovingkindness,
Vaster, broader than the sea!
O how marvelous thy goodness
Lavished all on me!
Yes, I rest in thee, Beloved,
Know what wealth of grace is thine,
Know thy certainty of promise
And have made it mine.

Simply trusting thee, Lord Jesus,
I behold thee as thou art,
And thy love, so pure, so changeless,
Satisfies my heart;
Satisfies its deepest longings,
Meets, supplies its every need,
Compasseth me round with blessings:
Thine is love indeed.

Ever lift thy face upon me
As I work and wait for thee;
Resting 'neath thy smile, Lord Jesus,
Earth's dark shadows flee.
Brightness of my Father's glory,
Sunshine of my Father's face,
Keep me ever trusting, resting,
Fill me with thy grace.
