Lord, Teach me how to Pray

“O Thou by whom we come to God,
The Life, the Truth the Way!
The path of prayer thyself hast trod:
Lord!  Teach us how to pray.”

Prayer is the Soul’s Sincere Desire – vs. 8

“We always pray that God will show you everything He wants you to do and that you may have all the wisdom and understanding that His Spirit gives.  (Col. 1:9)

Following Jesus is the most important of all of our relationships.  In each of our earthly relationships, communication is the key.  No relationship stays the same.  A relationship improves as two people come to know each other and share the things that are important to them.  This is just like your relationship with our Father in Heaven.  Prayer is talking and listening to God.  We pray to give ourselves to God, to become capable of receiving him, and to make it possible for God to do what He wants to do with each of us…and that is to give us Himself.

You can pray anytime you choose…anywhere you choose.  Prayer is a conversation, involving both talking and listening to God.  He is everywhere and always hears us when
we talk to Him.  The wonderful thing about God is that He is everywhere.  You can talk to Him and He can speak to you anytime and anywhere.  He is your best friend.  Talk to
Him as you would your best friend here on Earth; but keep in mind that we don’t share everything with our best friends, but we can tell God anything.  Without prayer, our relationship with God is one-sided. He communicates with us through His Word, and we should seize every opportunity to return the favor.

Our lives today are so very busy…most of us work outside the home, have children to love and raise and a home to maintain…not to mention the trials that get tossed our way
by the adversary.  It is only through stopping your mind’s constant race of a multitude of different thoughts and becoming one in communion with Christ that true prayer happens.  Prayer is quality time with God, not getting something from Him.  Prayer is being conscious of His presence, enjoying Him and talking with Him.

The Bible is a book of prayers.  Out of 667 recorded prayers, there are 454 documented answers (to name a couple – Isaiah 38:5, Luke 1:13).  But even more important than the
answers to prayer is the fact that prayer itself opens up communication between you and God.

I am a work in progress when it comes to praying to my Father in Heaven.  I learn something each and every day about prayer…how important it is…and how to really pray.

Thank You, Heavenly Father, for Christ In Pogo and the dear souls I have met there.  You, Father give me the strength to move mountains; they give me the knowledge and the power to pray constantly and do Your will each and every day.  Bless them always, Father…as You have blessed me.  Amen.
