A Great Joy

Warm greetings to you this Christmas month as we look back with thankfulness and forward in hope.

What's the most memorable gift you've ever received?  Who gave it to you?  It might have had very little monetary value, but it meant a lot.  I remember when my children would be so tickled to give me a gift, and as I got ready to open it, they would have big smiles on their faces.  They were full of excitement as they watched me open it because they wrapped it with their own hands and scribbled my name on the tag.  The wanted me to be just as excited to get their gift as they were to give it.

That's how each of us feels when we give what we know will bring someone happiness.  If you and I can feel blessed this way, think about how God must feel when He blesses us!  But with all that He has given us, the greatest gift is His Son Jesus Christ.

As we remove the wrapping from our Christmas gifts this year, let's remember that Christ was also wrapped.  He was God wrapped in human flesh in order to walk among us and to reveal the Father to us.  We wrap gifts to create anticipation and excitement.  We want to see our loved ones faces when they open the package because we already know what they need or want is inside.  And so it is with our heavenly Father.  He wants us to see the living God in human flesh, a gift that will bring us unspeakable joy.

My prayer is that, as you celebrate this Christmas season, you will remember Jesus as the greatest gift you have ever been given.  Celebrate Him, and give Him away as much as you can.  If you do, you'll experience a most joyful and meaningful Christmas!

Merry Christmas!
In Christ's love, Georgie (CanuckLynn)

"But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me, one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times."  Micah 5:2 (NIV)

 What an awesome and powerful scripture. God, through the prophet Micah, told us centuries ago that our Savior would one day come. And He will be called... "Wonderful Counselor," "Mighty God," "Everlasting Father," "Prince of Peace."  Can you imagine what it was like for Mary when she gave birth to the King of all Kings?!  We can only imagine. I wonder how long the line will be in Glory Land wanting to ask Mary that very question.  And can you also imagine an angel appearing right in front of you and saying "Do not be afraid, you have found favor with God.  You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus."  Don't know about you all, but I would have fallen over in a dead faint!  In the book of Luke, Mary was told she had 'found favor' with God.  Favor is putting it mildly!  But really the lovers of Jesus, all of us that believe on His Name, have 'found favor' with God.  "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom His Favor rests."  As we celebrate another Christmas, let us not forget the favor that our One True God has shown us.  He has not only given us an eternal home with Him and A Love Beyond Compare, but He has also given us His Son, whom He also 'highly favored.'  We give you the Honor, the Glory and the Praise Dear Lord...this holiday season and forever.

From my home to yours...Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year!
Your sister in Christ, Terri (tervana1)

Received in Our Inbox!

I would be honored to join a Christian based group of believers having fellowship and honoring Christ even in a game room. What must I do to join? I love the Lord and pray that this group is above board and God honoring in all that goes on here. As to why I wish to join, I feel led by the Spirit to join a group that says they are devoted to sharing Christ's love and praying for one another. To publicly acknowledge Christ is an awesome thing in today's era. I acknowledge Christ as my Savior and will testify to His life changing grace and mercy. He alone is able to transform human hearts.

I've seen your group mentioned many times in pogo game rooms by various members and would like to join your group. Your members are out-standing witnesses to the Lord and your group, and I thoroughly enjoy my time with them. It's nice to know that there are other people out there like myself that are looking for other 'nice' Christian folks to hang out with, have fun with, and be friendly with/towards. Thank you so very much!!

I saw one of your member's profile and was very excited to see that there is a very large group of pogo playing Christians. I am a born again Christian who has been looking for "safe" people to chat with and play games with. I am interested in becoming a member with Christ in Pogo, as I could use the fellowship, and the prayer. I also look forward to being able to pray for others as well.

I received an invitation on my pogo mail. I came here and checked out your site and believe me I am very impressed. It seems like a place to receive spiritual help and meet other children of God and fun study of the Word. I have been looking for a site like this and here I am.

CHRISTMAS WITHOUT A LOVED ONE

I see the countless Christmas trees
around the world below;
With tiny lights like heavens stars
reflecting on the snow.

The sight is so spectacular
please wipe away the tear;
For I am spending Christmas with
JESUS CHRIST this year.

I hear the many Christmas songs
that people hold so dear;
But the sounds of music can't compare
with the Christmas choir up here.

I have no words to tell you
the joy their voices bring;
For it is beyond description
to hear the Angels sing.

I know how much you miss me
I see the pain inside your heart;
But I am not so far away
we really aren't apart.

So be happy for me dear ones
you know I hold you dear;
And be glad I'm spending Christmas
with JESUS CHRIST this year.

I sent you each a special gift
from heavenly home above;
I sent you each a memory
of my undying love.

After all, love is a gift
more precious then pure gold;
It was always most important
in the storied JESUS told.

Please love and keep each other
as my father said to do;
For I can't count the blessing
or love he has for each of you.

So have a MERRY CHRISTMAS and wipe away that tear;
Remember, I am spending CHRISTMAS with JESUS CHRIST this year.

Tranquility Lane is a faith-based web support group for victims and survivors of domestic violence as well as the people who love them.  We offer information, inspiration and healing tools like affirmations.  Tranquility Lane also offers interactive forums in which victims, survivors and support-givers can meet, talk and discuss the issues we face not only in breaking the cycle of abuse, but also the issues we face as we heal – issues like eating disorders, substance abuse and personality disorders.  We have but one goal at Tranquility Lane and that is to do what we can to assist victims of domestic violence in becoming survivors of domestic violence.  We do this with a combination of helpful information, unconditional love and unwavering support.

A brief, personal bio:    I'm a 44-year-old survivor of domestic violence.  After 6 months in a shelter and 10 years of hard work, I'll be completing work on my BA in psychology in December.  I've recently attained another of my personal goals and begun working as a victim advocate at a local domestic violence shelter.  I've also written a book called Breaking Free – Life After Domestic Violence, which should be available for purchase in the next 2-3 months.

Luke 2:11-14  (KJV)

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.  And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,  Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

The Twelve Declarations of Christmas
by
Alan Allegra

This may not be a catchy song title, but there is a lot of meaning to it.

The song we know as "The Twelve Days of Christmas" catalogs the grandiose gifts given to the singer by a "true love." Every year, some wag calculates the cost of the individual gifts, somehow figuring out the value of leaping lords and a partridge in a pear tree. Is a partridge worth more in a pear tree than on the wing? Are French Hens more valuable than Jersey Giants or Dorkings? Tradition has it that the gifts have religious symbolism. No one knows for sure.  One thing we DO know for sure: there were many declarations of the birth of Christ in the Bible, most surrounding his birth in the New Testament, plainly proclaiming the true love of God in giving the greatest gift, His Son Jesus (2 Corinthians 9:15). We will highlight an even dozen.

The first announcement came thousands of years ago, bringing hope to the first sinners: Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:15). When Israel needed comfort in the midst of punishment, Isaiah proclaimed Messiah's birth in Isaiah 9:6. The first New Testament announcement of the coming of the Lord came to the priest Zacharias in Luke 1:13-17. It predicts that John the Baptizer would prepare the people for Christ's advent. The angel Gabriel greeted Mary, a virgin, in Luke 1:31, with the news of her divine pregnancy. Miraculously, John the Baptist heard and leapt for joy in his mother's womb in verses 41-45. At John's birth, the dumbstruck Zacharias spoke clearly of the Messiah's mission in verses 68-79. When Mary returned to Nazareth, Joseph was told in Matthew 1:20-23.

We are very familiar with the announcement made by the angels in Luke 2:8-14, but the shepherds were excellent heralds themselves in verses 17-20. Upon Jesus' presentation in the temple at Jerusalem, two more announcements were made. It was not the High Priest who received him, nor lawyers or scribes, but a just and devout old man (Luke 2:29-32) and a fasting widow (36-38) who made these announcements. The last announcement we will consider was made by the wise men who came from the east. They saw his star and traveled perhaps months to see the new King of Israel (Matthew 2:1, 2). They reported Messiah's arrival to King Herod, who verified the news by the priests and scribes. The wise men found the child Jesus in Bethlehem and worshiped him.

There is so much to be learned by reading The Twelve Declarations of Christmas. The grace and kindness of God are seen in that, in the midst of the curse brought by our first parents, the Redeemer is promised. While punishing Israel for her unfaithfulness, the Messiah's birth is foretold. Christ's purity is guaranteed by his virgin birth, and his deity by Holy Spirit conception. Christ came for the common people, and is rejected by those who would rather hold on to their power and religious pride. And, whether rich or poor, Israelite or Gentile, wise men still seek and worship the Christ.

Perhaps the greatest message that underlies the Twelve Declarations of Christmas is that of hope. The true "True Love" gave to me (and you) a gift that is imperishable, the value of which is incalculable. God gave us hope in the midst of despair, light in the midst of darkness.
Do not miss the announcement of the Son of God coming in the flesh. Wherever you hear the truth about Jesus, call him Lord and worship him there. Wise men still seek him.
